Cedar Mesa Pottery supports and encourages employees to expand their talents.
Many of our artists have developed particular skills with one or more styles
of pottery decoration including air brushing, hand painting and etching.
Artists use combinations and variations of these basic techniques to create
beautiful collectible art pieces.
The Collectors Gallery is where we will showcase specialty pieces by some
of the better artists we work with. Artists may introduce limited edition
as well as one-of-a-kind pieces. Please visit the site often to see what
is new in the Collectors Gallery.
JAMES BENALLY is full blood Navajo, he was born TO the YUCCA clan (Hashk'aanhadzohi' or Yucca Fruit-strung-out-on-a-line) and born FOR the RED CHEEK PEOPLE clan (Tla'a'shchi'i') on what is known as the Utah Strip of the Navajo Reservation in the White Ridge area. James has been employed as an artist at Cedar Mesa Pottery along with his wife Jean since 1987 and has become a vital player in our success. They have taught their children the pottery craft and each has each has spent some time working at Cedar Mesa Pottery. In addition to his many and varied skills employed in our regular production pottery lines James excells at highly detailed etched collectors pieces. Although he may produce a number of similar pieces each one is a one-of-a-kind collectible with its own unique character as influenced by the mood and creative instinct at the time of its creation. We invite you to check back often to see what new things James Benally has to offer.
RAYMOND DESCHENE is a Navajo Artist with experience in many different mediums. He works currently on the regular Cedar Mesa pottery lines as well as producing one-of-a-kind collectors pieces. Ray had developed a unique (secret) method of staining white pottery before etching detailed images and designs. Each piece, therefore, has unique character not only because of the etching but also due to the variation in the staining process. We hope to offer some of Ray's prints and original paintings in addition to these pottery pieces. We invite you to check back often to see what new things Ray Deschene has to offer.
